Sounding the Larkin Trail
Very pleased to be asked to provide the visuals for part of Dave Gawthorpe’s ‘Sounding the Larkin Trail’ event as part of the Toads Revisited Programme. Thanks to Jamie King for the photographs, see the full set here.
“Sounding the Larkin Trail is a 3 part journey of musical events held at key locations on the Larkin trail through Hull as part of the ‘Toads Revisited’ programme to mark 30 years since Philip Larkins death. The 3 part concert encouraged the audience to “walk in Larkin’s footsteps” & experience vivid encounters with the places that were so important to Hulls most celebrated poet. Part 1 was held at Springbank cemetery, with poetry readings by Rob Bell of The History Troupe, beautiful music written by local musician David Gawthorpe & played by a string quartet (Adrian Ward, Catherine Ackroyd, Sally Currie & Chris Pollock). Part 2 was held at Hulls Paragon Interchange train station, with poetry readings by Rob Bell and music by David Gawthorpe, Mick McGarry, Lyn Acton, Lloyd Dobbs & Audrey Okyere-Fosu. Part 3 was held at Hulls ‘Ye Olde Black Boy’ pub in the historical old town, with large scale Larkin related projections by visual artist Jay Moy & Jazz Music by David Gawthorpe, Mark Knight, Mark Ellis & Andy Swift.”
